Erik Jonsson Fellowship In Materials Science and Engineering
Joseph Beam
The Erik Jonsson Fellowship in Materials Science and Engineering is to attract the world’s top scholars to UT Dallas and recognize their academic excellence. This inaugural fellowship is specifically designed for incoming doctoral students in materials science and engineering. We are proud to announce that the first recipient of this prestigious award is Joseph Beam.
My name is Joseph Edward Beam. I was born and raised in Plano, Texas, and I am currently 23 years old. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Physics at the University of Dallas when I graduated from there in May 2023. My research will involve searching for and running calculations on material candidates for use in new battery applications, such as solid-state batteries, as well as phase-change materials. Currently, I am working on testing materials that pair well with specific adsorbate molecules, to see if they can be used as an attaching point for molecules of phase-change materials.
