Alumni Highlight: WE CELEBRATE UTD-MSE URM GRADUATES!

In MSE, opportunity matters in expanding opportunities, creating new initiatives and developing partnerships. We foster a welcoming environment, where interaction leads to collaboration that facilitates new ideas. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our graduate program, we attract students from Naturals Sciences, Engineering and Technology (chemistry, physics, bioengineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering).

Since the inception of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering more than 200 students have graduated from our Masters and PhD programs, and we are proud that the participation of underrepresented minorities in our department exceeds the national average. For example, 24% of our alumni are female and 20% are African American/Hispanic.

Our department partners with student organizations to connect with aspiring students, and our strong collaboration with industry has led to fellowships for URM graduate support. As a result, many of our URM alumni have successfully pursued jobs in industry and academia, or started their own companies.

Our department provides MSE students with an ecosystem that encourages discussion and exposes them to other ways of thinking and analyzing problems. This is something that cannot be taught in the classroom, and our department leadership is committed to continuing the culture of belonging that has characterized MSE at UT-Dallas.
