The North Texas Semiconductor Institute

The North Texas Semiconductor Institute won a Tech Titans of the Future award at Tech Titans’ 25th annual awards.
“Our mission at the North Texas Semiconductor Institute is to enable world-class semiconductor research, collaborations and workforce development,” said Dr. Ted Moise, director of the institute and a research professor of materials science and engineering in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. “We are grateful to be honored by Tech Titans for our work to support the region’s fast-growing semiconductor industry through an innovative semiconductor workforce development consortium.”
UT Dallas founded the North Texas Semiconductor Workforce Development Consortium with support from the U.S. Department of Education.
Through close collaboration and best practices, the consortium has boosted enrollment in semiconductor technician programs 140% over two years, Moise said.
The consortium includes Texas Instruments, GlobalWafers, Qorvo, Air Liquide, Coherent Corp., Collin College, Dallas College, Grayson College, North Central Texas College, Texas State Technical College, SEMI Foundation and a third-party assessor, UT Arlington.
Dr. William Vandenberghe

MSE is happy to announce that Dr. William Vandenberghe has been promoted to Full Professor!
Dr. Vandenberghe joined MSE in 2012 and has since made various contributions to the department. He currently serves as the associate department head.
His research team focuses on the study of electron transport at the nanoscale using theoretical methods towards the development of new materials and devices. Specifically, the team wants to exploit quantum mechanical effects to realize new devices with improved performance, energy efficiency or new functionality.

Dr. Julia Hsu
Congratulations to Dr. Julia Hsu, who was awarded Taipei Fuhsing (復興) Private School Outstanding Alumni.
Dr. Laisuo Su

Dr. Laisuo Su received the 2025 ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award. Read more here.
Su also received a National Science Foundation award from the CBET Electrochemical Systems program for a project titled “Uncovering Molecular Crowding Effects for Rational Design of Electrolytes in Zinc-Ion Batteries.” This is a 3-year project that began in September.
